PROBUS THRISSUR CELEBRATES ONAM

The Onam Celebrations for 2009 of this club was held at Elite Hotel on 26 Aug 09. The celebrations commenced with the usual Onam song followed by lighting of the lamp by the senior most couple, followed by a Thiruvathirakali, and a skit by Remachechi and gang on the concept of a day care for senior citizens. As usual the colourful Mohandas gave a soulful rendering of two malayalam melodies. This was followed by a small gift distribution event and then the Ona sadya. The highlight of the sadya was the addition of two non veg dishes to the menu. All together there was much bonhomie and light banter and all dispersed to meet again next year. The standout of the evening however was the arrival of Maveli to bless all. Thanks to Probus management for the evening. The functiion was quite well attended.

BULBUL has her third shot

Today 24 Aug 09, we ie, Vandana and I, take Bulbul to her pediatrecian Dr Viswanath at West Fort Hospital. We go there at sharp 11 A.M. as asked by the doc and wait awhile before we are ushered in to meet him. Bulbul remains on her best behaviour and was generally in a playful mood. The Doc examines her and announces that she is qite okay and making excellant progress. Vandana bombards him with a volley of queries about various conditions she had notoced and had doubts about. He laughs away the concerns and tells her that her baby is qite ok and we do not have to worry unnecessarily. We thereafter take her to the casualty for the DPT third shot. Matron joins us and Bulbul winces when she is poked. She is however very brave in that for barring the initial cry at the time of poke, she becomes calm quite quickly. She is then administered the polio drops and we return home qithin 40 mins. Our fear of her having temprature consequent to the third injection seems misplaced as she is quite normal the whole evening and night. So ended her third dose and now we shift to B'lore where she will have to go for her last dose in Sep. God Bless Her my sweet Bulbul.

Progress of 'NEDIYAM' at Kuttur

Slowly but steadily the house has now come up to the roof level.Rains during this period have been providential as it has helped to cure the cemented portions without the need for separate
watering. Hopefully next week that is the 24th onwards roofing process should commence. I can
well imagine the thrill architechts get when they see their designs come to life. So much for this time. Shall add the next when the roof is done.

HUMBLING OF THE MIGHTY AUSSIES!

The Ashes series is clearly proving that this Aussie team is by far the weakest one to have landed in England for the last two decades. The English superiority is clearly evident and the Aussies are desperately trying to stay afloat in the series. Is it too much cricket that is to blame or lack of proper domestic preparation. Nowadays cricketers especially those representing their countries hardly get any time for domestic appearances. This leaves them short of match practice away from the cares, worries and pressures of international cricket. Currently barring the West Indies, all other test playing nations are more or less equal in stature and on its day can beat the other. In a way isn’t it a healthy situation as far as the game is concerned. Food for thought.. eh ?

BULBUL AND HER PRANKS

Every morning I await the arrival of Bulbul upstairs. Her innocent smile is enough to make our day. It is only when one is watching her that one realises how much one missed enjoying the growing up years of our own children. The small noises, the little cries all makes us feel what we had missed in the past. Bulbul has become the acme o four existence these days so much so that we feel odd when she isn't around. We are really going to miss her when she leaves. It must have been the same for parents too when they too had to part with their grand children once they returned with their parents. I can sese see the plight now that I too am in that state. The wheel has really come around.

6 Aug 09

Today is my daughter Vandaana's birthday. The day commenced as usual with litttle fuss. Bulbul decided to take a longish nap which allowed Vandana to accompany her mother to the temple at Paramekkavu. Though she could not go in she bowed her head with all reverence and piety seeking the Almighty's blessings. It was sort of double whammy. in that thialso happened to be the day when good old Santro was reintroduced by its owner Kalyani who drove it first to the temple. Breakfast was Dosas for eating which I got a mouthful from the mother daughter combine who are the guardians of my weight los programme. Anyway all the ire dissolved when the present for Vandana was handed over to her. It was a Diamond ear rings set bought with great love and affection by her mother during her last trip to Eranakulam. The day then panned out uneventfull, with the usual birthday 'sadya' with two 'payasams'. One was from Tiruvambadi temple and the other from a local catering person. Lunch over Kal returned to school and the rest retired for their forty winks afternoon siesta. Sumathycheriamma and the ever green Kochamama were present on the occassion. Our daughter has crossed and entered the 'Thirties' threshold! Good Luck to her. Shanta dropped in in the evening to have her share of payasam as she had other chores during the day. Thus ended her 'sadya pirannal' for this year.
